Second National Conference on Teachers’ Professional Development

British Council Srbia organized the Second National Conference on Constant Professional Development for teachers. The Conference was held on Saturday, 16 March in Hotel Hayat in Belgrade.

The aim of the conference was to initiate a discussion about the continuos professional development for English teachers in Serbia together with the representatives of the most important institutions in the field. The special focus was put on the current regulations of the frame for professional development.

The UK Emassador, His Excellency Mr Michael Devenport, British Council Director, Mr Tony OBrian and Deputy Minister of Education, Ms Vesna Fila opened the conference.

The Association of Language Schools of Serbia – YALS, was invited to participate and YALS Chair Ms Marija Pejatovic presented YALS practice and its achievements at the round table entitled “What can we improve”?.

Not only that YALS was identified as one of the key partners in Serbia in the field but it was also a chance to present the participants the good practice and principles applied in the association. Since YALS’s mission statement is to promote quality in language teaching this was a great opportunity to explain the cycle of continuous professional education and development, which has been applied in YALS schools since 1999, as being the basis for quality language teaching and learning.
