EAQUALS Special Interest Workshop Meeting in Munich
held from 8th to 10th November 2012, attended by Vesna Stakić who represented the ‘Tom & Emma School of English’ Belgrade and YALS.
The event was held at the Goethe Institute in Munich.
The Workshop was combined with a major project in which EAQUALS is playing a leading role – the European Profiling Grid (EPG) project. The EPG is a tool for mapping and assessing language teacher competencies internationally. It contains descriptors organised over 6 phases of professional experience as a language teacher (novice to very experienced) and summarises the main competences of language teachers. The EPG covers 4 fields: language and culture, qualifications and experience, core language teaching competences and professional conduct. Designed for language teachers as well as their managers and trainers, its main purpose is self-assessment and assessment of language teachers in an institution. This is useful when planning how to deploy teachers and when designing in-service training and professional development. A user-friendly online version of the EPG will also be created and will be available free of charge from September 2013.
In the second half of the meeting members could choose between 3 streams: Business Development, Teacher Management and CEFR Curriculum and Assessment. In each of these three areas presentations were given to generate discussion and exchange of best practice.
